Events Home - A film by Curtis Essel YAASAA presents Home, a short documentary celebrating six decades of The Africa Centre, a cornerstone of culture, community, and belonging. From welcoming icons such as Ama Ata Aidoo, Chinua Achebe, Fela Kuti, James Baldwin, and Maya Angelou, the Centre has stood as a meeting ground for generations of thinkers, artists, and revolutionaries shaping global Black consciousness. Through intimate conversations with Cyril Nri, Professor Gus John, Keith Shiri, Nnamdi Nduka-Eze, Dr. Sheila Obim, Sulekha Egal, and Professor Wangui Wa Goro, Home traces the Centre’s evolution, from its founding to its living present. Blending archival footage with contemporary life inside its walls, the film explores how community breathes meaning into a building, and how culture transforms space into sanctuary. Home honours the generations who have passed through The Africa Centre while looking toward those still to come. It stands as both a tribute and a declaration that The Africa Centre is more than a physical space; it is an enduring spirit of belonging and resistance. A true home away from home.
